The course takes runners southeast along the trail for the next two miles until they cross the trestle bridge over the bay and head into March Point, where they’ll make a loop around the northernmost part of the point.
At March’s Point Road, runners start what will be a counter-clockwise loop around the point, heading east along North Texas Road, north along East March Point Road and south along March’s Point Road before re-joining the Tommy Thompson Parkway to make the return route back into Anacortes for the race finish.
The final four miles of the race are a re-tracing of the steps runners ran in the first half, just in the opposite direction this time. Along the way, runners should be able to spy blackberries and salmonberries growing on the hills that rise up on one side of the trail, while the Mount Baker Ski Resort could also be visible in the distance, depending on the race day weather.
The finish line for the race actually lies a few blocks past the starting line, as runners will continue on past the 6th Street & Q Avenue intersection where they started and continue three blocks to 3rd Street.
Here, they’ll turn left and then turn again right onto Commercial Avenue, where they’ll head toward the water for the race finish.
