More than 2,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair participants come out each year for the Evansville Half Marathon, which celebrates its 21st annual running along a course that overlooks the big, beautiful ribbon-like Ohio River that cuts through the city and marks its border with Kentucky to the south. From the starting line on Riverside Drive, the out-and-back course takes runners along a course with plenty of flat stretches — with some gentle, rolling hills, however — over the last several miles.
Along the way, participants are treated to several of the city’s most well-known sights and attractions, including Garvin Park, Bosse Field, Main Street and the Evansville Walkway, Bayard and Akin Parks and the last, finishing mile along the city’s Riverfront Park.
All participants — runners, walkers and wheelchair competitors — need to be aware that the course closes after four and a half hours, and several parts of the course remain open to traffic throughout the race.
