Once those running the half hit the second turnaround, they then start heading northward and eastward back along the route they’ve just run, retracing their steps all the way back to the finish line at Panther Island Pavilion.
Though runners can expect some very mild inclines and declines along the paved trails that make up the course, the overall race route will feel very flat, as the elevation rises only about 70 feet between the starting line and the highest point of the half marathon, which lies at the second turnaround point.
Once runners hit that point, it’s quite literally downhill back in to the finish line at the pavilion.
