From the starting line in Old Mill Park, the race follows an out-and-back multi-loop course through the city, taking runners along the Rappahannock Canal, where runners follow the canal path that runs alongside it.
After repeating one loop and passing Old Mill Park, runners continue along the Rappahannock Canal, but this time they keep going along Fall Hill Avenue and tackle the only hill of note on the course, with a elevation change of 200 feet in less than half a mile. After tackling that hill, runners follow Fall Hill Avenue and Shelton Boulevard, where they turn around near Marks & Harrison Amphitheatre and coast down Fall Hill.
It’s smooth sailing from there, as runners make another loop through downtown Fredericksburg and back toward the finish line at Old Mill Park.
The race is run, organizers add, whether it’s raining, snowing or the sun is shining. There’s a 3 hour, 30 minute time limit for the half marathon.
