Taking place the last weekend of July, the Freedom Fighters half marathon and 5K is set for its annual running in Quantico, Virginia. The race will continue to benefit the Semper Fund, which provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post-9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families.

A beautifully scenic course, run through Prince William Forest Park, runners in the half marathon will enjoy a 13.1-mile run with a mix of mostly paved roads and a 1.5 mile stretch of gravel and sand. The USATF approved half marathon course will begin at the Prince William Forest Park Visitor center and head out onto Scenic Drive where they will remain for the majority of the course. Just past the 2 mile mark, runners will continue right on Scenic Drive, making a counter-clockwise loop around the park. They will cross over multiple streams while on the course as well as a short out and back on the gravel trail for the 5th mile. Continuing their counter-clockwise loop around the park, runners will take a right onto Turkey Run Rd. just past the 10 mile mark and meet back up with Scenic Drive to head back on the same route to the finish line. The men’s course record was set in 2015 at 1:18:40, while the women’s record has remained unbeaten since it was set in 2014 at 1:21:33. There is no time limit for the half marathon, and walkers are welcome to attend the event. Runners are encouraged to sign up before July 14, in order to be guaranteed a race shirt. Runners should also sign up early as due to park rules, there will be no race day registration.
