The course follows Springstone to 96th Street, and then turns and heads over the water across the second bridge along the route, for the stretch of the race that takes runners on a counter-clockwise loop around the southern end of the reservoir.
Runners follow Fall Creek Road all the way around the edges of the lake to 79th Street and then onto Fox Road, turning north when they hit Oaklandon Road.
All throughout the early and middle stretches of the race, participants encounter numerous rolling hills, but no major hills to speak of — from the starting line elevation of just under 800 feet above sea level, the course never drops below about 750 feet or climbs above 850 feet above sea level.
