The Greenwood Furnace Trail Challenge, starting at 15795 Greenwood Road in Huntingdon, PA, offers a half marathon and a Greenwood Furnace 10K.
The 10k begins at Greenwood Furnace State Park and goes through Rothrock State Forest. Runners ascend Chestnut spring trail, cross the service road onto Spencer, and climb up Greenwood Spur. At the top are hydration and first aid stations. The descent back to the park includes a grassy service road and the steep Ruff Gap Trail. The single-track half-marathon features a figure-eight route with rocky climbs and challenging descents. The 13-mile course, marked with orange flagging and manned road crossings, has two brutal ascents and descents, featuring stream crossings, footbridge challenges, rock gardens, mud, and scrambling.
