From the starting line at the Hillsboro Stadium athletic complex, just off Bennett Street, runners follow the first mile of the course westward along Bennett, 235th Avenue and Huffman Street, and turn again northward onto Brookwood Parkway.
The course follows a counter-clockwise loop route up along Helvetia before following Jackson Quarry southward all the way to West Union Road, where runners turn left and head south back toward Helvetia. From there, runners continue down Helvetia before retracing the steps they took during the first mile toward the finish at the stadium, where the runners and walkers cross the finish line on the football field’s 30-yard line.
Along the way, participants will run across gravel surfaces on portions of the route, though most of the race is run on paved surfaces.
The first two to three miles and the last four to five miles of the race route are mostly fast and flat, with a few gently rolling hills here and there.
In between are the race’s most significant hills, as the course jumps from about 200 feet above sea level around the mile 3 marker to over 450 feet between mile markers 4 and 5.
Half Marathon Guide is the largest calendar and educational resource in the world for half marathon runners and enthusiasts with over 10,000,000 annual visitors.
