Get ready for an event that offers something for everyone! The USATF certified course sets off and concludes at the Intervale Trail Head of The Jackson River Scenic Trail in Covington, Virginia. Following the path of the old Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, the trail boasts a smooth crushed gravel surface, mostly flat with gentle hills, and treats participants to scenic views of the Jackson River as it winds through communities, fields, and patches of woodland, often providing glimpses of wildlife along the way. Rain or shine, this event goes on, with announcements about race status made on the website (www.jacksonrivermarathon.com), Facebook, and local media in case of severe inclement weather.
All finishers receive a commemorative finisher’s medal, while unique awards await the top 3 overall male and female finishers in each race category: marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K. Additionally, the top three male and female finishers in each age group of every race will receive certificates of accomplishment. Following each race distance (5K, 10K, Half and Full Marathon), the awards ceremony will take place at the Intervale Trail Head, starting 30 minutes after the top 3 males and females finish their respective races. Refreshments await all participants at the finish line.
Important to note, awards will not be mailed, so participants are encouraged to attend the ceremony for their race. To secure a T-shirt, registration by May 25, 2024, is necessary; after this date, availability is not guaranteed on race day. On Friday, June 7th, packet pick-up will be available from noon-4pm at the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism and from 5pm-8pm at the Covington Farmers Market. On the day of the race, on-site packet pickup begins at 6:30am.
