Overview

More than 1,000 runners and walkers come out to take the streets of this southeastern Minnesota city each spring at the Med City Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay & 20-Miler, which draws several hundred runners each year for its half marathon race alone, and makes its 25th annual running this year.

The race — which features a half marathon, 20-mile race, and a relay in addition to the full marathon — takes runners on a point-to-point course that starts near the Rochester International Airport, a small airport to the south of downtown Rochester.

Course Description

Runners start the race at the Rochester International Event Center, then make their way north where they cross the finish line near the Mayo Civic Center and Mayo Park.
Along the way, the course follows a scenic route through a mixture of tree-lined streets, parks and golf courses as well as through downtown city blocks, the race is run on paved surfaces throughout, and features plentiful rolling hills for the first six miles before a steep downhill.
After the 6 mile marker, the course flattens out and remains level throughout the rest of the half-marathon portion of the event (as well as the full marathon, which continues on for another 13.1-mile loop past the half marathon finish line).
Scheduled starting time for the half marathon is 7:00 AM, and runners should note that shuttle bus transportation will be provided from the parking and finish line area to the race start.
