Columbus, Indiana may be a small town, but the Mill Race Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K is no small race, with over 3,000 finishers in all three races — and over 1700 in the half marathon alone. The half marathon begins on Washington and 7th Streets in downtown Columbus and continues north briefly before making a turn left onto 11th Street and running alongside Mill Race Park for the first mile of the course. The half marathon continues by taking runners on a tour of Columbus, leading them past Garland Brook Cemetery, downtown Columbus, and small-town residential neighborhoods near the town center.
The half marathon course is mostly flat with a few hills, particularly at the beginning of the course. Get those hills out of the way early and coast through the rest of the course, which is a great one for setting a personal record (and a Boston qualifier for full marathon runners).
Once you’ve finished the race, make sure to stay for the after-party, an all-day affair in downtown Columbus featuring live music, a beer garden, and a truck giveaway to one lucky marathon or half marathon finisher. The proceeds from the half marathon go to a good cause, so run for good: with over $210,000 donated to charities promoting healthy lifestyles in the race’s first three years.
Half Marathon Guide is the largest calendar and educational resource in the world for half marathon runners and enthusiasts with over 10,000,000 annual visitors.
