More than 3,000 runners make their way through the streets, city parks, nature trails and country roads just outside Bozeman each spring for this race, which takes runners on a point-to-point course that features separate starting lines just outside town for the 13.1-mile and 10K races, both of which finish at exactly the same place: Pub 317 on Bozeman’s East Main Street.

Because the race is run just as winter is officially giving way to spring (but often lasts for weeks longer in this part of the country), runners are cautioned to remember that the trail sections of the race route can be wet, muddy and/or icy, so they’ll need to exercise caution if the area gets any precipitation in the days leading up to the race.
However, the course itself more than makes up for any challenges, as runners will learn why they call Montana “Big Sky Country” all along the course, from the wood-fenced country roads and wide-open grassy meadows near the race starting line on Patterson Road to the snow-capped peaks of the many mountains off in the distance.
Runners finish the race after winding through town from Patterson to the 10K starting line on Nash Road and 3rd Street, after which they run along the Bozeman city trail system and then finish at Pub 317, near Bogart Park.
Organizers note that for 2023, the race — which marks its 17th annual running this year — will be capped at 2,250 entrants for the 10K and 800 entrants for the half marathon.
