Overview

Taking place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at picturesque Portage Park near Cohasset, this fan-favorite event (100–500 participants) includes a half marathon, a 5K, and a relay option—perfect for solo runners and pairs alike.

The half marathon is a USATF-certified, single-loop route that winds through northern Minnesota countryside. Starting at Portage Park, the course skirts historic Forest History Center and circles Horseshoe Lake and Little Jay Gould Lake via a mix of scenic roadways, paved paths, and woodland stretches. Runners are treated to tranquil lakefront views, passing pine and birch forests, and may even spot local wildlife. Aid stations are well-positioned, and race day ends with a festive vendor area showcasing local favorites like Borealis Creamery, Hero’s Rise Coffee, and even beermosas from Klockow Brewing. Participants receive chip-timed results, a race shirt, swag bag, and a commemorative medal.

What elevates this race beyond the typical summer half is its intimate community feel, scenic out-and-back simplicity, and post-race celebration in the Cohasset–Grand Rapids area. The relay option adds fun and team camaraderie, while the modest field ensures personalized support and hometown charm. Ideal for lake lovers and nature runners looking to ditch the crowds.
