As one of the oldest race events in the United States, the Skyline 50k and Half Marathon racing event has become one of the most popular and sought after events to participate in, particularly for first-timers, and especially for those residing in or eager to visit California. While the event has been alive for years, the half marathon course introduction has only been active since 2021.

Trail Runners, Scenic Views. On a fast trail course in Castro Valley, runners can expect desert-like conditions throughout. Though desert-like conditions, however, runners can also expect spectacular views of the skyline, the skyline gate, and of course, the natural landscapes of the trail course itself

Starting and finishing at Lake Chabot Marina in a looping out-and-back fashion, this half-marathon course takes runners through a scenic route along the East Bay Regional Parks on trails east of Lake Chabot, ultimately reaching the awe-inspiring Skyline Gates. Exiting across a footbridge on East Shore Trail, runners proceed to Ten HIlls Trail before reaching the first aid station on Marciel Road. Exiting Brandon Trail followed by Deer Canyon Trail, runners then reverse back toward Marciel Road. Reaching now the second aid station on Marciel Road, runners continue on Redwood Road where they’ll ultimately reach Cameron Loop Trail; the final destination before heading toward the finish line on East Shore Trail to Lake Chabot Marina. All runners receive a race-specific shirt, special Skyline running socks, and a finisher’s medal – for those who finish in high standing, additional awards will be awarded. After the race, surely stick around Lake Chabot Marina for a fun-filled plant-based barbeque and beer – families and friends are all welcome!
