Set in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, the Steamworks Half Marathon returns Sunday, June 7, 2025, offering a high-altitude point-to-point experience from Baker’s Bridge to the Durango Sports Club. Since its founding around 2000, this intimate race has steadily attracted trail-loving speedsters and first-timers alike, capped at just 250–300 runners to preserve its tight-knit community vibe .
At 6,500 ft elevation, the single-loop course humbles and inspires. It descends gently along County Road 250, tracing the serene Animas River through pine-dotted canyon scenery. USATF certified, the route is mostly downhill or rolling, with mild climbs providing balance—but expect mostly fast, scenic running.
A highlight? That post-race celebration: participants enjoy a festive poolside party complete with Steamworks Brewing beers and Homeslice Pizza at the finish line. Added perks include chip timing, shuttle busing from finish to start (6:30 AM departure), and an “early start” option at 7:00 AM for runners needing extra time (note: early starters are ineligible for official awards).
Runners appreciate both the scenic route and intimate format:
“Came from Las Cruces, NM…small event… beautiful start line”
With limited entries and a strong sense of camaraderie, Steamworks offers more than a fast half—it offers community and charm at altitude.
