In its fourth annual race weekend, the Sunlight Showdown Half Marathon is an exciting two-day event focused on bringing fun and fitness to those daring to participate! All proceeds of the event are put toward the Glenwood Springs High School Cross Country Team. Trail Runners, Challenging Course, Scenic Views. Taking place in beautiful Sunlight Mountain Resort, this 13-mile trail course boasts 3000 feet of elevation gain throughout the Babbish Gulch trail system.
Dubbed as one of the most challenging courses in the state, runners can expect winding single and course track trails winding through aspen forests, open meadows, and stream crossings offering spectacular views of Mount Sopris

Beginning on 10901 County Road, runners set off along the backcountry trails of Sunlight Mountain Resort and the Babbish Gulch trail system. For the first half of the race, it’s nearly all climbing territory, reaching a final elevation peak of 9852 feet. During the second half of the trail course, it’s reverse elevation, with runners exploring a gradual descent toward the finish line. With no cut-off time for the race, this event prioritizes fun and fitness, allowing participants from all walks of life to come and challenge themselves, whether walking or running, to enjoy the feeling of progress and accomplishment. Having only one water-only cupless aid station in the second half of the course at mile 8.6, all participants are encouraged to come prepared with their own personal fueling stations, whether a reusable water bottle or bladdered bag/vest.
