With miles that take runners along a combination of both city streets and right along the sandy beaches of the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island anywhere in the world, Padre Island Baptist Church’s Surf N’ Turf Race is aptly named, and features a half marathon for individual runners as well as a 10K and a 5K run and walk.
Set for its 15th annual running this year, the race is organized by Padre Island Baptist Church, which uses the proceeds from the race to benefit its missions programs. The course unfolds just north of the Padre Island National Seashore.
The race also is part of the church’s “fitness ministry,” which seeks to help parishioners “grow in both their physical and spiritual health,” according to the church, by participating in local races and through the church’s own Surf N’ Turf Races.
