Missouri > Saint Louis Half Marathon & 5K
Clayton, MO  •  Sunday, November 2, 2014  •  Course Map

Set for its 35th annual running through the city known as the "Gateway to the West" here in the fall of 2014, the St. Louis Track Club's annual Saint Louis Half Marathon takes runners on an out-and-back route that starts and finishes in the city's Clayton district and features long stretches through Forest Park, whose nearly 1,300 acres are just one of the St. Louis's more than 100 urban parks scattered throughout the city.

The race route starts near Shaw Park at the athletic and recreational complex known as The Center of Clayton, a nearly 150,000-sq.-ft. fitness complex that houses several gymnasiums, swimming pools, a running track and numerous aerobic and dance class rooms. From there, runners head out onto Forsyth Boulevard, where they make their way east along Forsyth and through the campus of Washington University on the way toward Forest Park.

Estimated at nearly 500 acres larger than New York City's Central Park, Forest Park has a long, rich history here in the city, as it served as the site for the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904, and first opened to the public all the way back in 1876. Filled with trees, lakes, ponds and wide-open meadows, the park serves as the race route for nearly 9 miles of the course, as runners make their way inside the park just before passing the mile 3 marker and then exit the park just before reaching the mile 11 marker.

Along the miles in between, runners are treated to some of the city's most scenic urban views as they make their way along the winding Lagoon Drive, Grand Boulevard and Jefferson Drive, passing by notable landmarks like the St. Louis Art Museum and the Missouri History Museum.

The route brings runners to the mid-way point of the race near the center of the park along Union Drive and Theater Drive, after which runners make the turn onto McKinley Drive and then retrace their steps along the route they've already run along Grand and Lagoon on their way out of the park.

The race next brings runners back onto Forsyth Boulevard, back through the Washington University campus and then back in toward The Center of Clayton, where runners cross the finish line. The race is open to both runners and walkers, and the event also hosts a 5K Run/Walk as well as a half-mile run for kids that loops around the Center of Clayton parking lot areas.

More than 1,000 runners crossed the finish line at the race's 2013 running in both events combined, including just over 840 runners in the half marathon.
