Overview

With the primary mission of protecting the Arizona National Scenic Trail, the Arizona Trail Vail Scramble Half Marathon and 10k race event works to support the Arizona Trail Association, with all benefits and proceeds given to them. Traversing a valley that’s between Santa Rita and the Rincon Mountains, this spectacular one-of-a-kind course offers the lucky runners who’ve chosen to participate views only available to be seen along the Arizona Trails in Vail, AZ. While Vail itself is a beautiful suburb with mountainous views surrounding it, the foothills of this race course is next level, offering awe-inspiring scenery of desert-like nature.

Course Description

This point-to-point trail course comprising a challenging yet approachable rolling course along the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains begins just South of Vail and persists North throughout the Arizona Trail system (AZT). Starting on Lakes Road, the half marathon brings runners on a largely downhill course. At the 10k mark, runners will reach Sahuarita Road. Finally, onward runners will persist toward the finish line at Gabe Zimmerman Trailhead. For those looking for an ideal way to explore the Arizona Trail, this race is it. With incredibly friendly volunteers throughout, well-stocked aid stations throughout, and a unique event goodie bag comprising, of all things, race socks, what’s not to be excited about? Just remember, this IS a cupless course, so come prepared with your own reusable water bottle or or hydration pack.
