Challenging and hilly. Starting on sidewalk nearby the Grand Canyon Visitng Center, this race quickly takes runners through a near 11.5 mile stretch along Fire Road of dirt trails comprising rugged rocks, soft dirt, and some challenging forest roads, finishing on a rolling paved mile on the Arizona Trail path. Challenging in and of itself, this race course also only provides three aid stations through out at miles 4, 8, and 11.5. Event hosts recommend all participants to come prepared to be self-sufficient, carrying anything they require to remain safe and fueled up. As for celebrations, many who complete the Grand Canyon Trail Half Marathon rave about the participant t-shirt and finisher’s medal, for it’s more of a cherished souvenir than an awarded accomplishment to most. Oh, and be sure to stop into the Beer Garden afterwards!
