Overview

Set for its 41th annual running along the dirt fire trails of Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley, Calif., the Lake Chabot Trail Challenge Half Marathon & 5K race offers a rugged, challenging course for runners, with plenty of hills along a loop course throughout the park.

The race takes place just a short drive from the nearby cities of Oakland and San Leandro in the Bay Area, along the lake’s 20 miles of hiking trails — which connect to another 70 miles of trails in nearby Anthony Chabot Regional Park.

Course Description

The park’s 315 acres play host throughout the year to fishing and boating enthusiasts, as it is stocked with trout and catfish as well as with plenty of rental canoes and tour boats. The park also offers ample hiking, bicycling and jogging trails, and tourists can enjoy seasonal lake tours aboard the park’s flagship “Chabot Queen.”
The course time limit for the half marathon is 3 1/2 hours, and the half marathon begins at 8:00 AM (the event also features a 5K race, and organizers add that race participants will share the roadways within the park with other runners, cyclists and pedestrians who aren’t taking part in the race).
