1) NewBo Run • Cedar Rapids, IA • Sept. 6, 2015

The NewBo half marathon course is a mixture of out-and-back and a loop. Runners begin at the NewBo City Market in downtown Cedar Rapids. Though the majority of the course is run on pavement, there is a section from miles 6.5 to 10 that is along the Sac and Fox Trail featuring a crushed limestone path. For $25, runners get a total of 8 water stops and a 1 GU stop around mile 7. Get a shirt for just $5 more!

2) Uff Da Run • Woodville, WI • May 16, 2015

Located approximately an hour from the Twin Cities area, the Uff Da half marathon is held in the town of Woodville, Wisconsin. The out-and-back race is on a course featuring a scenic abandoned railroad bed.

Runners can expect a fast and flat race. For just $35, runners will receive a t-shirt, 7 water stops, and refreshments at the finish. Plus, first place male and female overall winners will receive a Norwegian Rosemaling plate.

3) Owl’s Roost Rumble • Greensboro, NC • April 25, 2015

With only a small portion of the course on paved roads, the Owl’s Roost Rumble Half Marathon is a trail runner’s dream. Runners will travel on single track trails along the Owl’s Roost trail, Nat Greene trail, Piedmont trail, and Big Loop trail.

The race features an uphill finish so save some energy for mile 13! For $35, runners will receive a t-shirt and two water stops. Runners are encouraged to carry hydration if needed.

4) ERS Savannah Love Chocolate Half Marathon • Savannah, GA • Feb. 14, 2015

If you like chocolate and half marathons, the ERS Savannah Love Chocolate Half Marathon is a must-do race. The out-and-back course is entirely paved and a favorite spot for local training runs.

Runners receive all kinds of great perks for their $35 — a finisher medal, a mug, childcare for ages 3 to 12 during the race, free race photos, and a finish line full of hot chocolate, coffee, and chocolate treats.

5) Harlingen Half Marathon • Harlingen, TX • Nov. 15, 2015

Featuring a course that hits the highlights of town, the Harlingen Half Marathon is a great inexpensive option for locals. The race features party music and water stops nearly every mile and promises to be a great experience for all participants. The first 500 participants will receive a dri-fit shirt and custom medal. Those who register late will still be sent their goodies 2-3 weeks after the event.

6) Strider Half Marathon • Milwaukee, WI • Aug. 29, 2015

The Strider Half Marathon is capped at 1000 entries and with a $35 entry fee until the week of the race, it is expected to sell out. According to the race website, “the course does a loop around Estabrook Park, then is an out and back on the Oak Leaf Bike Trail. The path is paved, and mostly asphalt.”

Runners will be able to hydrate at 6 separate water stops and collect a new tech t-shirt to add to their collection. Plus, enjoy a hot breakfast from the Estabrook Park Beer Garden and Old German Beer Hall at the finish.

7) Bohemian Alps Half Marathon • Brainard, NE • Oct. 10, 2015

The Bohemian Alps Half Marathon is on a course featuring a scenic and hilly loop. Runners will travel over a bike trail, an off-road cross country course, and pavement. For just $35, runners will receive a long sleeved t-shirt, a finishers’ medal or ribbon, and a post-race barbecue. Make it a family day by signing up the kids for the 1-mile fun run.

8) Boston Trail Half Marathon • Elizabeth Twp, PA • April 18, 2015

Runners looking for an alternative to pavement will delight in the Boston Trail Half Marathon. Featuring a course of crushed limestone, runners will travel along the Youghiogheny River Trail, a section of the Great Allegheny Passage.

For just $35, runners will have access to hydration stops every 2 miles and energy gels at the halfway mark. Those who register by March 28th will receive a long sleeved tech shirt. All participants are invited to join the post-race party featuring music, food, and refreshments.

9) Rollin Irish Half Marathon • Essex Junction, VT • April 25, 2015

The loop course of the Rollin Irish Half Marathon is a rolling hills course over rural dirt roads. Runners will need to finish in 2:40 or faster as the course closes at 11:40 a.m. This inexpensive race doesn’t offer on-course hydration or t-shirts, but does have refreshments for participants at the finish line. Runners who decide to join in the fun on race day pay only $20.

10) Jackson River Scenic Trail Half Marathon • Covington, VA • June 27, 2015

Nestled in the Allegheny Highlands of Virginia, the Jackson River Scenic Trail Half Marathon is a beautiful course. The trail follows an old railroad bed of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway and runs parallel to the Jackson River.

Traveling over the smooth crushed gravel surface, runners will have an opportunity to hydrate four times out on the course. As an added bonus, runners will be able to enjoy all the festivities of the Cork and Pork Festival at the finish line which coincides with the half marathon.
