Lake Powell Half Marathon is a fantastic half marathon event for both beginners and experienced trail runners alike. For those eager to show up with their adventurous hats on, it’d be neat to know that the location which they’ll be running through (i.e. Lake Powell) was named after famous explorer John Wesley Powell. With over two million people visiting Lake Powell each year to experience the awe of the largest man-made reservoir in America, participants are considered to be one of the lucky ones (though you might not feel that when in the middle of the event!). This race offers runners spectacular views that no other race course can offer in Arizona, with mountainside sites of Lake Powell, the Vermillion Cliffs and its painting-like red rocks throughout, and tremendous temperatures to accompany it, it’s a fan favourite for more reason than one. From Rusty orange Jurassic Navajo Sandstone to the crystal clear blue waters below, Lake Powell Half Marathon is an event for the ages!

Starting at John C. Page Park in Park, Arizona, this paved point-to-point running course with a 1.5 mile trail section thrown into the mix, has an elevation gain of 553 feet. It’s worth noting, however, that the majority of the course is downhill in nature. To begin, runners set off toward Grand Canyon Junction’s Public Library before reaching Lake Powell Blvd. At kilometer five (5), runners find themselves of Navajo Drive as they set their sites on the 1.5 mile trail path off of 20th Ave. Upon completion of the trail, runners hop on to Rideview Drive to complete kilometer 10 before reaching Highway 89 and the welcoming sign for Page, Arizona. It’s then up toward Navaja Mountain Viewpoint along Lakeshore Drive until they reach the town of Waheep and cross the finish line. Runners have a total of four (4) hours to complete the race, which leaves ample time for walkers and runners alike. Upon finishing, all runners will earn a commemorative finisher’s medal.
